The inspiration behind AndrewsCamps is Andrew Frierson who grew up in Marin and has taught at several Marin schools (Bacich, St. Hilary, Edna Maguire, Wade Thomas). Following three years playing professional baseball (with the Washington Nationals) Andrew returned as head baseball coach at Tamalpais High but his real ambition was realized when he founded AndrewsCamps.
Andrew loves working with and mentoring young people. Those who know him are amazed at the special way he is able to communicate with and motivate children and youths. AndrewsCamps is now in its 15th year of providing the best youth programs in Marin.
Andrew believes the pendulum has swung too far away from encouraging individualism. He wants kids to grow up with the freedom to explore their curiosity, to try out their ideas, to even be different from time to time.
AndrewsCamps is an active place where kids have multiple opportunities to play sports, games, do crafts, and try things out. The operative words at AndrewsCamps are “yes, you can.” It is a somewhat Montessori approach to helping kids grow. The AndrewsCamps way is to provide an atmosphere where every kid, regardless of their background, has the chance to develop to their fullest potential and to follow their own initiatives rather than always being told what to do. At AndrewsCamps creativity and initiative are encouraged and rewarded. No one is left behind. At AndrewsCamps that attitude is real, not just a slogan.
LOVE. Andrew’s vision is that every one of our participant boys and girls is embraced in an accepting loving way. Every one of our kids becomes a part of this very special community. Our staff don't just watch the kids … they fully engage in the games and activities. They know the kids and their families. This is an incredible partnership that produces healthy well-adjusted young people.
